Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen is officially live, so grab your weapon of choice and get ready to face the Cabal horde. Revolving around stopping Emperor Calus’ daughter Caiatl from uniting the Cabal, players will need to take down various champions that are vying for a seat on her War Counsel. But who cares about all that, we’re here for the loot. However, some parts of the season will be quite familiar to players as Iron Banner once again returns to upset everyone that Stasis still exists. Similar to previous seasons, players will be given a new Iron Banner quest that will reward players with event-specific loot.
(Author’s Note: These steps were datamined ahead of the quest’s release. I will update the guide if anything changes.)
How to Complete the Gauntlet’s Chosen Quest
1. Smelting Pot
The first step of the quest shares a lot of familiarity with previous Iron Banner quest steps. You will need to kill Guardians and capture zones, both of which will carry progress throughout the rest of Gauntlet’s Chosen. Meaning even if you complete the capture zones step for Smelting Pot, any additional points nabbed with go towards the next three steps. Because of this, you will always want to focus on capturing points.
That being said, each quest step has one unique challenge that you’ll need to complete. For Smelting Pot it’s getting either Arc or Solar ability final blows. While your weapon doesn’t matter, you will want to ensure that you’re rocking the correct subclass. For Hunters I recommend Blade Barrage to ensure you can kill multiple people, Titans should consider either top tree Solar or any of the Arc trees, and Warlocks should definitely rock top tree Dawnblade for added mobility. Obviously, you can use which one suits you best, so just focus on getting ability kills above everything else.
2. Sounding Bell
Along with killing people and capturing more zones, you’ll need to obtain Power weapon kills. Obviously, which Power weapon you use will determine the difficulty of this step. If you want a legendary weapon I suggest either Commemoration from the Deep Stone Crypt, Sola’s Scar from Trials of Osiris, or any rocket launcher with tracking. Alternatively, you could grind for the new Nightfall weapon, Swarm, to use for this step. Personally, I like Commemoration since it’s a consistent machine gun that can typically get 2-3 kills per Power brick. If you’re going to use an exotic then Eyes of Tomorrow, Xenophage, The Colony, Truth, and One Thousand Voices are all solid options.
3. Live Fire
Oh look, you have to kill more people and capture zones. What a surprise! For Live Fire, your unique step requires players to get submachine gun kills. Lucky for you, one of the best SMGs was introduced this season and is incredibly easy to farm for. Called Extraordinary Rendition, this weapon is incredibly consistent and will certainly be the most used weapon during this step. If you don’t own one, then Huckleberry, Cold Front, and Friction Fire are alternatives. However, I strongly recommend just using Extraordinary Rendition if you have a good roll, it will make this step much easier.
4. Steady Drums
I swear this is the last time you need to kill Guardians and capture zones. The final step will also task you with getting pulse rifle kills. There are some decent options available to you like Stars in Shadows, Cold Denial, No Time to Explain, but these all suffer from the glaring problem of not being The Messanger. Look, everyone is going to be using this Trials of Osiris weapon if they have it, so be ready to face down some tricky long-range fights. If you don’t own the gun, try to use a weapon in the same 340 archetype like No Time to Explain. This will give you a slightly better chance at long-range fights, ensuring you can quickly burst down foes.
5. Gauntlet’s Chosen
The last step just requires you to go talk to Lord Saladin in the Tower! Wipe those frozen tears away, it’s all over. You never have to go back to Iron Banner again. Stasis won’t hurt you anymore.
