"My empress," Taurun reported, "the Vanguard has deployed a Guardian to investigate the Leviathan. Your presence has been requested aboard the H.E.L.M.—"

"Where is Calus?" Caiatl gazed ceaselessly at the Leviathan as it loomed beside Luna.

Taurun paused for a moment, datapad in hand. This question had become a common thread woven throughout their briefings. "We do not know. The Leviathan is a gargantuan ship. It is quite possible Calus remains entrenched deep within its Underbelly."

"Then we will disembowel the beast."

"That would be… inadvisable."

Caiatl turned to face her, eyes as cold as her voice. "By all means, Taurun. Advise me."

Slowly, Taurun lowered her datapad. It was not the first time that Caiatl had bristled at her counsel. But since the Leviathan's sudden return, the empress's patience had winnowed to the width of a blade. Taurun chose her next words with caution.

"Calus has an unknown number of Loyalists at his disposal, along with whatever other horrors now inhabit the ship. Our soldiers would almost certainly pay the price for our nescience."

"Would you rather we die cowering behind our shields?" Caiatl scoffed.

"I would rather we not die at all."

The silence hung heavy in the air between them. "Noted," Caiatl decreed as she turned back toward the Leviathan. "You may take your leave."

Taurun nodded and made to depart. As she left the bridge, she hazarded a glance over her shoulder. Silhouetted by Luna, Caiatl bore a striking resemblance to another late leader of the Cabal.

One whose obsession led to ruin.

Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted is here, and it’s the spookiest addition yet. With the return of Emperor Calus’ mighty Leviathan, players are tasked with venturing into this massive ship to deduce what has happened to the corrupted vessel. Along with the new Nightmare Containment activity, players can earn new weapons, armor, and cosmetics for their Guardian.

Perhaps the biggest draw is hunting all the new loot available. Along with the seasonal and world drops, we also got six dungeon firearms that are exceptionally strong. My favorite weapon of the collection is the Lingering Dread grenade launcher. A Stasis grenade launcher, this firearm can roll with seriously terrific perks. It’s worth hunting down for PVE.

How to Get Lingering Dread

As stated above, you can only get the Stormchaser in the Duality dungeon. This weapon drops from the first encounter, which requires you to kill the Nightmare version of Gahlran. Keep in mind that this gun is not a guaranteed drop at the end of this section. You could also get the Epicurean fusion rifle or a piece of armor. If you do get Lingering Dread to drop, even just once, it will then become a possible reward from either of the dungeon’s two secret chests and the additional engram you get for beating the entire activity. Remember, you can endlessly farm the dungeon so you aren’t limited to running this activity once a week.

Lingering Dread God Rolls

Lingering Dread PVE God Roll

  • Volatile Launch
  • Spike Grenades or Blinding Grenades
  • Auto-Loading Holster or Ambitious Assassin
  • Chill Clip or Vorpal Weapon

If you plan on using this in PVE, there are a few good perk combinations you can utilize. In the barrel slot, I am going with Volatile Launch to increase the blast radius at the cost of velocity and handling. Your magazine perk won’t be that surprising if you do a lot of endgame PVE content, as both Spike Grenade and Blinding Grenades are always fantastic options. The former increases direct hit damage while the latter applies a blinding effect to enemies in the blast radius. Both are terrific regardless of what perks you decide to us, so ideally you’ll get a roll with both options.

As for the primary perks, you’ll want either Auto-Loading Holster or Ambitious Assassin. Auto-Loading Holster is the best perk in the slot since it allows you to just fire a round, stow it, and not worry about reloading. It’s the optimal option, cutting down any time you’d spend stuffing another grenade into the chamber. That being said, Ambitious Assassin is also strong, since it puts two rounds in the magazine if you score a kill. You really can’t go wrong with either of them, but the best choice is definitely Auto-Loading Holster.

Finally, the last perk should either be Chill Clip or Vorpal Weapon. I adore Chill Clip on this, as it will always trigger whenever you score a direct hit. This slows all targets around the enemy struck, giving us terrific add control in any activity. It also pairs nicely with Blinding Grenades, as it will both slow and blind enemies, making them utterly helpless. For those wanting something a bit more traditional, Vorpal Weapon is always a great, if unexciting, option.

Lingering Dread PVP God Roll

  • Quick Launch
  • Proximity Grenades
  • Steady Hands
  • Vorpal Weapon or Demolitionist

Look, when it comes to PVP, I honestly think you should go with Ignition Code, Forbearance, or Pardon Our Dust. However, if you do want to use this weapon, I suggest Quick Launch in the barrel slot. This will increase both our projectile’s velocity and handling speed, allowing us to quickly kill targets. Proximity Grenades also give us some flexibility since this perk makes it far easier to hit someone even if it reduces the blast radius by 20.

In the primary perk slot, we don’t have many good PVP options. While you can certainly go with Auto-Loading Holster, I like Steady Hands since it temporarily boosts the handling of all our guns. This allows us to quickly swap between weapons, allowing us to engage multiple targets. Finally, in the last slot, either Vorpal Weapon or Demolitionist is what I am looking for. Again, our options are severely limited so these are both decent options. The former will give you more of a fighting chance against Guardians in their Supers while Demolitionist helps us get our grenade back faster.

You can go with Chill Clip but this comes down to your ability to effectively and consistently hit people dead on with your grenade launcher.
