This Week in Destiny 2: Events, Updates, Ascendant Challenge – May 20, 2019

Season of Opulence is getting closer and closer in Destiny 2. And my Warlock is ready — I hit 700 a couple of weeks ago, have a full auto Go Figure, and thanks to Xur this week, am rocking a pair of hideous but powerful Geomag Stabilizers. Want to know what to expect as we move into season 7? This week in Destiny 2 is all about balance changes.

Whisper of the Worm Nerf in Destiny 2 Season of Opulence

Well, it was bound to happen. Whisper of the Worm has been such a dominant PVE weapon in Destiny 2 that Bungie has decided to nerf it, and the changes will hit the player favorite pretty hard. Previously, Whisper of the Worm regenerated ammo after three successive precision hits. Now the gun will only refill its magazine from reserves. This radically reduces the sniper rifle’s utility in many boss situations, so it’s time to look for new solutions. But hey, Xur is selling the Exotic heavy slot D.A.R.C.I. sniper rifle right now, so why not give that a try?

Sleeper Simulant, Ace of Spades, Lord of Wolves, Exotic Armor Nerfs in Destiny 2 Season of Opulence

But wait, there’s more! Some popular PVE and PVP weapons including Sleeper Simulant, Lord of Wolves, and Ace of Spades are all getting slight power reductions in Season of Opulence. Additionally, Exotic armors that grant back super energy are being toned down as Bungie sees them as “must pick” equipment. It will now be much more difficult for these Exotics to refund a full Super’s worth of energy, meaning players will have to rely more on their teammates’ orb generation. Ascendant Challenge Black Armory

Destiny 2 Ascendant Challenge This Week: May 21-28, 2019

To find this week’s challenge, head to Garden of Esila. You can find the area by heading from the initial Dreaming City spawn location and towards The Strand. Once in The Strand, turn right and follow the only pathway available until you enter the Garden. The portal is on top of the second rocky peak to your left.

This challenge is similar to Ouroborea — the first-ever Ascendant Challenge in Destiny 2. Except this time you get to destroy the knights trying to kill you, instead of just running away from them. It’s way more fun.

To kick off the challenge, you first need to find three orbs scattered around the outskirts of the central area. Pick up the orbs, bring them to the center of the main platform, and dunk them like only a Guardian can.

Dunking all three orbs creates a well of light in the center of the area that will almost instantly charge your super. That should allow you to take down the approaching knights with ease. You’ll want a ranged super—Dawnblade for Warlocks, Sunbreaker for Titan, Blade Barrage for Hunter—to melt them from a safe distance so they can’t hack at you. Once all of the knights are dead, collect the loot from the chest and bail.
