In Palworld, the strengths and weaknesses of your Pal could be the difference between winning a boss fight and having to start over after a long and arduous fight. Knowing what types of Pals to bring into hard fights will give the edge you need in order to obtain victory.
There are nine different types of Pals among the 135 critters in the game. Some are weak when defending against specific types, but strong against others. Each type has one weakness and all but one has one strength. Unfortunately Neutral Type Pals don't have a strength, so they get the short end of the stick as far as advantages go. Fire Type Pals are also strong against two types, making them the most versatile type in the game. Some Pals have two typings, meaning that you might have another Pal that is strong against it and can bring it to the fight.

Because players can hold up to five Pals in their party, it's a fair bet that you'll have something that can combat most wild Pals you come across. Having a Fire Type in your party is a smart move since it's strong to both Grass and Ice, meanwhile keeping your Neutral Type Pals working at the base is a better use of them, since they're not strong against anything and weak to Dark Types.
Even if you're a higher level, it can be worth it to let a Pal of a specific type work at the base for a while to level up before bringing them into your party. Having them work at the base will increase their level fairly quickly, but you can also keep them in your party, and they will level up even if they're not actively participating in whatever fight you're engaged in. The game makes it fairly easy for players to raise their Pals' levels, so whatever type you need for that next boss fight, it shouldn't be too hard to obtain it and bring it to the level of the rest of your Pals.
